Mayoral Meeting in Halle (Saale)

Savannah’s Mayor, Van Johnson II, and Savannah Chief of Police, Roy Minter, were welcomed by Halle’s Mayor, Egbert Geier, on June 20, 2022.  Mayor Van Johnson II and the Chief of Police Roy Minter were part of a team from Savannah and Atlanta to visit Halle (Saale) and other German cities. Dr. Judith Marquardt, the Deputy Mayor for Culture and Sport, arranged several different meetings for Mayor Van Johnson II to meet with people from Halle who are or will be involved in Savannah – Halle exchanges. Dr. Sabine Odparlik (far left) is the Head of Economic Development for the City of Halle. Professor Carsten Albers (4th from left) is from Martin Luther University’s teacher education program. He sponsors the student teacher exchange program with the Savannah/Chatham public schools.  Dr. Judith Marquardt has come to be a major player in boosting the Halle – Savanah Partnership.

Mayor Van Johnson signed the City’s Golden Book, the official guest book for very special visitors, which Dr. Angela Merkel as German Chancellor signed on German National Day, October 3, 2021.

This is the ceremonial photograph of the meeting of the two mayors, between them the US Consul-General who is based in Leipzig, and the delegation from Savannah and Atlanta. The Brotherhood of the Saltworkers in Halle also paid their respects to the guests from Georgia.
